The club’s third-annual Pink Sports Day was deemed a success.
Through the sale of pink socks, raffle tickets, cakes and donations, the Marlins raised $1257 for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
The men’s premier side returned to the winners circle with a solid 26 point victory over Warners Bay in round six of the Hunter Haval Black Diamond Cup, 11.21 (87) to 8.5 (53).
The win sees the Marlins move back into third position on the ladder.
The Marlins suffered a setback prior to the game with two of their most influential players, Luke Price and Jayden Rymer, unable to play due to hamstring injuries.
Nelson Bay had control of the scoreboard for the majority of the game.
Inaccuracy in front of the goals kept Warners Bay in the contest.
Best players for Nelson Bay were the in-form Todd Thornton, Harry Freund, Tim Divall, Billy Barton, David Wood and Jeremy Eddy with Thornton and Divall each kicking three goals.
In the GE Women’s Competition, undefeated Nelson Bay also suffered from inaccurate kicking but still were too strong for Lake Macquarie.
Nelson Bay defeated Lake Macquarie 15.21 (111) to 0.1 (1).
Lauren Hughes had a day out for the Marlins, kicking five goals.
She was well supported by the Smyth sisters, Pippa and Eliza, plus Kaitlyn Douglass, who all chipped in with two goals each.
Pippa Smyth, Sophie Balcombe, Douglass, Annalise Norton, Lisa Steane and Lauren Cooper were amongst the best players.
In reserve grade, Nelson Bay defeated Lake Macquarie 16.21 (117) to 1.0 (6).
The men and women’s teams have the bye next week for the Black Diamond AFL’s representative fixtures against AFL Sydney.
