Now Spotify has confirmed it.
The music streaming service is marking five years since its release in Australia with a look back over the country’s listening habits.
It found Newcastle was the only major city whose top streamed genre was not dance pop. No, we are Australian alternative rock types here in the Hunter.
Ed Sheeran takes the crown in the eyes of Newcastle. The UK singer was the most streamed artist of all time, his hit Thinking Out Loud was the most streamed song and x was the top streamed album of all time in Newcastle.
Newcastle was also the only major city where homegrown talents Flume and Sticky Fingers make the top streamed artists of all time list.
