The hub at Taylors Beach is a day program for people with a disability and a garden has long been on the wish list.
Eventually we’ll incorporate the produce into the cooking.
- Day Program coordinator Beck O'Leary
Volunteers from their neighbours Bunnings Warehouse constructed and planted three raised garden beds last Friday.
“We have a lot of people who we support who love gardening so we wanted to provide it here,” hub coordinator Beck O’Leary said.
“We didn’t have an area for it so the raised beds are just perfect especially for people with different abilities.
“Some will be able to sit and weed while others will enjoy watering.”
The hub supports about 20 clients a day where it provides various activities.
Miss O’Leary said there was a sensory aspect to the garden to engage clients in conversation about what they could see, smell and taste, as plants developed.
The garden will also link to another of the hub’s popular programs among participants – cooking.
“Eventually we’ll incorporate the produce into the cooking,” Miss O’Leary said.
