Hosted by Shoal Bay SUP on June 3, the event was part of a global paddling relay to raise environmental awareness and a bit of cash for conservation efforts.
It was also part of this year’s Naturefest program.
Rod Waski from Shoal Bay SUP, organiser of Saturday’s paddle, thanked everyone who turned out, including those who cheered on from the sand of Shoal Bay beach.
“Over 100 people had indicated that they’d like to participate [on Facebook] but with heavy showers in the morning and moderate cold winds it was not surprising that people were reticent to come out,” he said.
Mr Waski was involved with a Paddle for the Planet about five years ago.
He said he was interested in playing a part again, as he and partner Jay Power are “quite disturbed” about the way the environment, especially the ocean, is being treated in regard to waste.
Money raised will go to Marine Parks Association.
