Five-year-old Shoal Bay champion Sam Viles, fishing with his dad, Chris, was pulled down the beach by a thumping 2.5 kilogram flathead.
Sam tossed out again and caught another one.
Also on the prowl just off the shoreline are tailor, salmon, bream and the occasional shark or two.

Watch the fishers closely and take note of their gear, bait and technique then give it a go.
Fishing for luderick is great fun and at this time of year your chances of success are very good.
