The Elvis experience started for Norm Bakker more than 25 years ago.

A sound engineer heard Bakker, whose on-stage antics and looks were surprisingly similar to The King, sing at a major Sydney venue and suggested he do an Elvis show.

And so began a new production called A Solid Rock Salute to Elvis.

The show has taken Bakker, who lives in Port Stephens, to many places.

He has performed in many major clubs, nightclubs, interstate and international hotel chains and on TV, as well as in radio.

Bakker has performed at Graceland – the mansion and estate in Tennessee that was owned by Elvis Presley – in 2002 and again in 2009.

He said his Aussie Elvis was a big hit with fans.

“It was phenomenal. Americans love Australians and they loved it,” he said.

“People that are fans of Elvis look beyond the music. He was a generous human being.”

You might ask “what makes A Solid Rock Salute to Elvis” different?

Bakker does not try to be Elvis.

He wears the trademark Elvis ‘costumes’ and sings his greatest hits, but Bakker is not trying to imitate The King. His show is a tribute.

“There is only one Elvis and in our lifetime there will be no other like him,” Bakker said.

Bakker will perform at Tomago Bowling Club on Saturday, 16 September from 7.30pm. Tickets cost $30 which covers dinner and the show.
