Swapping books for beaches, the teens lent a hand at the Port Stephens Toyota NSW Pro.
St Philip’s Christian College student Jordyn Alley undertook event management work experience during the surfing event, which was held at One Mile and Birubi beaches November 2 to 5.
The 15 year old conducted surfing surveys with competitors and shadowed organisers.
“I’m going into year 11 and thinking about pursuing event management,” Jordyn said. “This has helped me get a feel for it. It [was] good to be out here with everyone, meeting new people.”
Jordyn’s school friends Joel Jackson, Matthew Douglass and Kiah Fulmer, all 15, also helped out at the NSW Pro. The trio carried out odd jobs for organisers. Kiah said the experience was “chilled out” and “fun”.
Jasmine Sampson, who also attends St Philip’s, surfed in the NSW Pro Women’s QS6000. When she wasn’t in the water, the 15 year old was helping organisers and catching a glimpse of how large-scale surfing events come together.
Another helper was San Clemente High School student and Anna Bay resident Josh Stretton, 15, plus members of the Bay Area Boardriders.
