A 53-year-old man was airlifted to hospital on Wednesday afternoon with burns to his hands following a boat explosion at Karuah.

Four ambulance crews and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service were called to the Big4 Holiday Park in Karuah about 1.10pm after a boat motor exploded and burned the man.
The 53 year old had been working on the boat at the time of the explosion.
A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesperson said the explosion occurred when the engine was started.
The man reportedly suffered injuries to his lower back, arm and hands.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew the man to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition
He remains in hospital.
