Great Lakes Council is looking for older residents to take part in its storytelling workshops, made possible by a $3750 grant under Local Government NSW’s Creative Ageing initiative.
The money will be used to run Storytelling in the Great Lakes workshops, which will help participants to tell a story and will culminate in an exhibition of the final works in January.
‘‘The funding aims to encourage older people to become involved in the arts, so the project provides an opportunity for those participants to try something new,’’ Lyndie Hepple, council community services co-ordinator, said.
‘‘A number of volunteers will be running the workshops and assisting participants to tell a story either by painting or drawing a picture, or through creative writing.’’
With the recent development of the council’s Active Ageing Strategy, the funding for older residents is timely.
‘‘We are delighted that we have been successful in our application for the funding to run this enjoyable project for older people,’’ Ms Hepple said.
Residents interested in participating in a workshop should contact council on 6591 7222.
