Last month, the council asked residents to obey parking and stopping laws in school zones after rangers were forced to hand out 22 infringement notices in August.
‘‘We are very happy to report that infringements for illegally parking and stopping in school and bus zones were down by 64per cent last month,’’ the council’s manager of waste, health and regulatory services, John Cavanagh, said.
The NSW Government assists councils in enforcing localised regulatory matters and has made school zone safety and disabled parking a focus area.
‘‘Council has little choice but to issue fines,’’ Mr Cavanagh said.
‘‘And although our school zone safety is improving, we are not doing so well on parking in disabled car spaces.’’
In October, rangers issued a whopping $519 fine to 11 people who illegally parked in disabled car spaces.
‘‘These regulations are important to give everyone in our community a fair go,’’ Mr Cavanagh said.
