The results were announced by the council on Monday.
The Myall Lake, Myall River and Bombah Broadwater each received a B, a ‘‘good’’ result meaning each system was in the second top classification of scores across the state.
Karuah River also received a B while The Branch got a ‘‘fair’’ C.
‘‘The waterways are such an important part of the Great Lakes and I’m very proud to see that we have managed to maintain excellent water quality over many of the sites for the last four years,’’ Great Lakes Mayor Jan McWilliams said.
‘‘It is a credit to our community that we have the support to continue the important projects that protect and improve the health of our waterways.’’
The 2014 water quality report is the fourth the council has released, which grades the waterways and catchments in the Great Lakes Local Government Area.
Grades are reached following an assessment on each of the waterways, with its actual health compared with what council would like it to be.
A healthy waterway would be characterised by clear waters and low levels of algae.
While the Myall and Karuah Lakes both scored well, the council said higher than desired levels of algae in both of the systems were still a concern. The full report card is from greatlakes.nsw. gov.au.
