This weekend the club will host its first ever whiting fishing competition, aimed at getting residents and visitors to the area, from the young to the old, out and about with a rod.
The Tilligerry club's secretary Ian Downs said the idea to hold a fishing competition came from long-time Lions member Bob Royal.
"The idea was consistent with our new president's [Mike Miles] theme for the new year, which is to support more local projects," Mr Downs said.
One project was the fishing competition which will run from 8am on Saturday, January 10, until weigh-in at 4pm on Sunday, January 11.
The competition will have three sections: primary students, an open division and families.
It is open to Port residents as well as visitors to the area.
Entry fees are $5 for students and concession holders, $10 open division and a family will cost $20.
Anyone can sign up on either day from 8am at Henderson Park in Lemon Tree Passage.
The weigh-in will be at Tilligerry RSL Sports Club, Tanilba Bay.
All profits raised from the competition, sponsored by Terrace Boating and BCF at Taylors Beach, would be donated to the Lemon Tree Passage Marine Rescue unit.
