I am not a foreshore resident but I walk the Soldiers Point peninsula beaches daily.
My observations following the recent storms are:
■ Where owners have invested their own money, time and effort into constructing "illegal foreshore structures" almost without exception this work has improved the presentation of the beach and foreshore.
■ The least eroded parts of the foreshore are those that were protected by these structures.
■ The worst areas of erosion (e.g. Georges Reserve) are either managed by the council or are residences where the owners have chosen to do nothing about protecting the council's foreshore.
Port Stephens Council, please show some real common sense and get off the backs of ratepayers who are already doing their best to preserve the beauty, presentation and longevity of our great beaches.
