Schools from within the Lakeside learning community will hold interactive and static art displays in MarketPlace Raymond Terrace during the first week of August.
It comes as part of an Education Week initiative to showcase the talents of the Port’s public school children.
“We love working with our local schools,” Colleen Mullholland-Ruiz, centre and marketing manager of MarketPlace, said.
“We’re fortunate enough to be invited into the schools to see the students’ talents. But that talent really needs to be showed outside to the public.
“By hosting these schools we’re bringing Education Week outside to the public.”
Irrawang Public School students will kick off the week of MarketPlace performances from 11am on Monday, August 1.
Medowie public will follow with a show, outside Big W, on Tuesday; Raymond Terrace public and Hunter River high on Wednesday; Wirreanda public on Thursday and Irrawang high and Grahamstown public on the final day, Friday.
The MarketPlace performances will act as a warm up to this year’s Showcase – an annual singing, dancing and musical event involving the schools within the Lakeside learning community.
“It is a showcase of student’s talents in all areas of the performing arts,” Lue Fagan, community liaison officer at Irrawang High School, said.
“Students perform to an audience of approximately 1000 guests and are provided with an opportunity to perform with professional lighting and sound.”
Showcase was developed as part of the school’s transition program, allowing high and primary school students to work together in a professional performing arts environment.
Tickets, available from the front offices of the participating schools, are still available.
Showcase will be held at Irrawang High School on August 2 and 3.
Irrawang high, primary and Wirreanda students will combine for the first Showcase performance on Tuesday, which will be followed by Irrawang high, Grahamstown and Medowie public students the next day.
The cost is $10 per adult, $5 for students or pensioners and $25 for a family of four.
