The council, through its cultural projects program, will fund the creation of a community mural on a building in the Raymond Terrace CBD.
A team of between 25 and 30 artists talented in realistic painting is now being put together to make the mural a reality.
Ross Smart, the council's communications section manager, said it was an exciting project that would make a positive impact on Raymond Terrace.
"Council is excited to be collaborating with a private land owner to create a project that will brighten up the commercial centre of Raymond Terrace,” he said.
“This is going to be a bright, vibrant and cheerful art piece that will generate a positive response from everyone who walks past it.”
Debra Liel-Brown, project’s art director, will oversee the creation of the mural.
“Debra Liel-Brown is very experienced artist who has worked all around the world,” Mr Smart said.
“We are indeed fortunate that she is located right here in our back yard in Raymond Terrace.
“I would encourage artists out there who are talented in realistic painting to submit an expression of interest to work with Debra to be part of this fantastic project.”
Work on the mural is slated to start in September and go through until October, with a launch next year.
For more information or to express an interest in getting involved, phone Ms Liel-Brown on 4987 7947.
