The Anna Bay 15-year-old was the only athlete from the Port Stephens area named in the 36-member Hunter Academy of Sport 2017 Greater Bank Netball squad on Saturday, as an emerging talent.
But this weekend she will be showing off her touch skills when the Peter Wilson Memorial Championships are held in Nelson Bay this weekend.
Ebony will play for Nelson Bay 16s as they state their case for championship glory.
The unassuming teenager is a NSW Combined Catholic Colleges schoolgirls representative touch player but is just hoping for an injury-free year after ankle problems plagued her in 2016.
It was a “frustrating” year for the San Clemente High School, Mayfield year 10 student, who twice tore ligaments in her ankle.
“I am feeling really confident this year,” she said ahead of the Peter Wilson Memorial Championships. “I’ve just got to strap it but it is feeling good.”
Ebony has been in the Hunter Academy of Sport’s netball squad for the past two years and is already holding her own in the Port Stephens A-grade women’s competition, in which she plays for Nelson Bay.
“There’s not too much of a difference from juniors, it’s not much faster but playing with the older players you learn more, so it’s been good,” she said.
