A launch event was held in Raymond Terrace MarketPlace on Thursday, August 10 to officially mark the fun run open.
The fun run, sponsored by Greater Bank, will be held on Sunday, September 10.
Bronwyn White, Athletics NSW’s Hunter regional development officer, said the event encourages members of the community to be more active and healthier.
“I was absolutely shocked when I saw the that Australian Health Tracker identified Raymond Terrace as the biggest health problem in NSW with 70.08 per cent of the adult population overweight or obese,” Ms White said.
“Local fun runs and clinics introduce community members to healthy activities that we hope will ultimately make a move in shifting the current cultural identity”
The Raymond Terrace event is one of 11 Greater Bank Fun Run Series events being held across NSW in 2017.
Greater Bank’s community engagement manager, Ingrid Kaczor, said they were “delighted” to play a key role in bringing an event that engages so many people across the Port Stephens community to life.
“Greater Bank has a long history of supporting the communities that support us, particularly here in the Hunter,” she said.
“It’s wonderful to be part of an event that not only brings the community together, but also promotes the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
“Whether you’re an elite runner, weekend jogger or someone who is just happy to get out and walk the course, I encourage everyone to join us at the starting line on September 10 to support this this great community event and a great cause.”
This year’s event will include three courses: 8km, 4km and a 2km for kids and speedy adults.
The courses will start and finish at Raymond Terrace Athletics Club’s home base - Vi Barnett Field.
Event organisers are encouraging school students to enter teams, and for participants to have some fun by dressing up for the run.
Entries are just $10 for the 2km, $25 for the 8km and $15 for the 4km.
