The winning woman held one of the four division one winning entries Australia-wide in Saturday’s Lotto draw – each will receive $1,009,035.64.
The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased her winning 24-game QuickPick entry from Tanilba Bay Newsagency.
“I check my tickets every Sunday – it’s a ritual,” she told NSW Lotteries officials.
“I get the Sunday paper and check my numbers.
“I thought ‘oh, I’ve got six here’.
“I yelled to my husband down the back ‘quick, come here and look at this’.”
She dismissed suggestions she was any luckier than the next person.
“I win a lot of meat trays and a lot of bingo but that’s about it,” she said.
“Everybody says I’m lucky but they’re just as lucky as me.”
But she did admit to some inkling to a windfall in her future. If with a healthy dose of cynicism.
“I read my stars the night before and it said I was going to have a major win,” she said.
“I read them every week and they say the same bloody thing... maybe the bloody stars do come true some times.”
The regular player has vowed not to “rush into anything” with her new millionaire status, but does plan to continue celebrating her win.
“We tried to celebrate [Sunday] night and go out for dinner but couldn’t get in anywhere, so we ended up coming home and having a cheese sandwich,” she said.
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto draw 3775 on Saturday 23 September 2017 were 44, 6, 40, 45, 13 and 8. The supplementary numbers were 16 and 2.
The woman is the second Port Stephens resident to win Lotto this year. A Port retiree won $723,182.31 in August.
It also comes after a Sydney man, on a work trip in the Port, hit the jackpot in Keno at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers in July.
