Fire activity near Raymond Terrace and Campvale has subsided are firefighters are slowly gaining the upper hand, the NSW Rural Fire Service has said in its latest update on the Port Stephens bush fire on Sunday evening.

The fire threat, which went from “advice” to “emergency warning” early on Sunday afternoon was downgraded to “watch and act” in the evening.
The fire continues to burn to the north of Newcastle Airport, near Richardson Road and Grahamstown Road and is burning in a northerly direction. It is burning in the vicinity of Wade Close, Campvale.
Richardson Road is closed between Benjamin Lee Drive and Medowie Road.
Residents near Richardson Road, Grahamstown Road, Harvest Road, Pastures Drive, Medowie Road and Wade Close, Campvale are being advised to monitor the situation and take advice from firefighters on the ground.
Medowie resides are also being advised to monitor conditions and be aware that ash and embers may fall within the area.
Firefighters are protecting homes and water bombing aircraft including the large Air Tanker 'Nancy Bird' are assisting crews on the ground.
Crews will continue to mop up and black out in the area of Barry Close, Cabbage Tree Road and Masonite Road at Tomago, where the fire began on Monday, and areas close to Newcastle Airport along Williamtown Drive, Technology Place, Kindler Way, Cresswell Way, Slades Road, Sandeman Street and Moxey Close.
Strong southerly winds are expected to continue into this evening which will continue to push the fire north.
