Funded by the NSW Government, the new station will be constructed on Port Stephens Council land at Boulder Bay Road, adjacent to the existing facility.
“This modern station will ensure the local Rural Fire Brigade can continue to protect and serve the Fingal Bay community well into the future,” the council’s emergency services coordinator Cameron Donaldson said.
“The Fingal Bay Brigade not only fights bushfires, they also respond to urban fires, car accidents, flood and storm damage and other emergencies.
“They are a crucial part of the community, and it’s great that we can play a part in ensuring they receive a much-needed upgrade to their facilities.”
Preliminary work has begun on the construction of the new facility to provide firefighters with modern facilities to continue serving the local community.
Preliminary geotechnical work is already underway, with construction scheduled to start in March and expected to be complete in July 2018.
Mr Donaldson says the new fire station will be built with modern construction materials.
“The building will be constructed with sturdy precast concrete and will feature two truck bays, a multipurpose area, modern kitchen and office facilities and also onsite parking for the volunteers,” he said.
