It was a great day for the Port club, with the Pythons also downing Paterson in the C grade final and Tarro in the D grade finals en route to the club championship.
All grades had to resort to playing on back-up fields on Sunday after a deluge throughout the week rendered the first-choice fields unplayable on Saturday.
Thankfully teams were able to take the field Sunday, avoiding the unsavoury result of the premiership being decided by which team finished higher on the ladder.
Paterson chose to bat first in the A grade final, setting to work on a wicket that had seen some water.
Opener Matthew Jones stepped up early, punching out an impressive 40 that included an amazing six sixes before being caught out. His output was only matched on the Paterson side by fellow batsman David Puxty, who hit a calculated 50 that included eight boundaries.
LLeyton Eveleigh was the destroyer with the ball, with the Port bowler claiming four wickets while giving away just a meagrely 12 runs.
Paterson finished up with a defendable 167 run total.
But once again for the Port side, it was impressive batting of Jarrod Moxey that did the damage. Living up to his name, Moxey showed plenty of it to top score with 62, providing the steadying influence needed to run down Paterson’s score in 33 overs.
It was a well deserved win to cap an outstanding season.
