But unlike the dawn service the second showing of umbrellas was not for pouring rain, but to ward off harsh sun that bore down on the main service.
The rain held off just long enough for crowds to enjoy the traditional Anzac march along Stockton Street and the 11am in Apex Park.
Nelson Bay RSL Sub-Branch vice president Tom Lupton conducted both services in Apex Park on Wednesday.
Angelia Gordon was the bugler at both services in Nelson Bay.
Royal Australian Navy CMS, Commodore Christopher Smith, delivered the Anzac address.
Flight Lieutenant Stuart Asquith, RAAF chaplain at Williamtown, delivered the prayer, commemoration of the fallen and Anzac epilogue.
PCYC Newcastle band and the SeaSide Singers performed the Recessional Hymn and the national anthems of New Zealand, in both English and Maori, and Australia.
Tomaree Public School students Isabella Rawlins and Charlotte O'Donnell delivered The Ode.
Wreaths were laid by Nelson Bay RSL Sub-Branch vice president Norm Cason, RAAF Group Captain Peter Cluff, Commodore Smith and Chief Inspector Brian Tracy from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District.
Wreaths were also laid by Heather King OAM, on behalf of the Nelson Bay RSL Sub-Branch Women's Auxiliary, Jan Kable, Nelson Bay Ex-Servicewomen's Association, Col Thorley, National Service and Combined Services Association, Lois and Jim Morrison on behalf of Paterson MP Meryl Swanson.
