Temperatures of about 6-8 degrees below the average for this time of year are set to hit the Hunter on Friday and will stick around for most of the weekend.
Overnight, around the Hunter it was expected to be between 3 and 8 degrees, with daytime temperatures of between 10 to 16.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a slow moving low-pressure system over the Bass Straight is set to push cool winds up the coast.
“The cold front is about half-way through NSW,” forecaster Gabrielle Woodhouse said.
“Behind that we’re looking at those temperatures being quite chilly, and that story will persist over the weekend.”
Rain wasn’t expected on Friday, but showers are likely in the later half of the weekend.
Big swells are also expected on the coast.
