Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer and state MP Kate Washington were invited to help Latitude One owners Ingenia Lifestyle open the estate with an official ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday morning.
In addition to the ceremony, the opening gave attendees, about 250 people, a chance to view the display village and tour six new display homes that are part of stage two of the estate’s development.
“Port Stephens is a popular region for retirees and, as a council, we’re working hard to ensure sustainable and balanced growth in this area,” Cr Palmer said.
“I don’t think anything can beat the way of life we have here – the natural beauty of beaches and bushland all around us, plus the convenience of being close to shops, services, and the airport, it really is the perfect place.
“I know the community values these things too, which is why it’s fantastic to be here to help launch the Latitude One display village and celebrate our new residents in Port Stephens.”
Latitude One is one of Ingenia Lifestyle’s new resort-living communities for over-55s. Once completed, the $100 million estate will be a community of 270 homes set on 29.2 hectares and will include a $5 million resort-style clubhouse.
It is one of three over-55 residential villages currently being built in Anna Bay. Latitude is located next to Hometown Australia’s Sunrise estate off Nelson Bay Road. Nearby, in Trotter Road, the Boardwalk Lifestyle Resort is being built.
Once complete, the three estate will create about 500 new dwellings in Anna Bay.
Ingenia chief executive Simon Owen said on Saturday that he was excited to open the new display homes and see the community come to life in Anna Bay.
“We are pleased to be building our presence in the region, with Latitude One joining our Soldiers Point and One Mile Beach Holiday parks in the area,” Mr Owen said.
“Our $100 million investment will see us create 270 new homes and an array of facilities, with community activities for everyone to enjoy.”
Kenneth and Janette Scott, one of the first set of residents to move into the estate in April, said they were happy with the lifestyle living at Latitude afforded them.
“We hadn’t found one that grabbed us until we came across Ingenia Lifestyle Latitude One. It had the instant wow factor,” Ms Scott said.
“None of the other communities we had seen even came close to Latitude One. Our home is perfect for us. We did downsize but it doesn’t feel like we had to sacrifice anything to do so.
“My husband and I have seen the plans for the new clubhouse too and can’t wait to enjoy all the activities that will be on offer – we love being social and getting to know everyone.”
