Shot in high-definition widescreen over nearly two years, the 84-minute film is a remake of a previous award-winning film produced to lure visitors.
Covering the one square mile laid out by Colonel Light, the DVD tour starts off at what Brian says is the “showpiece of Adelaide”, the River Torrens.
This is followed by, among others, a boat ride on Popeye to the heritage-filled zoo, where we see giant pandas Wang Wang and Funi; the warm and tropical Bicentenary Conservatory; and Ayres House, where we go on a 19th-century behind-the-scenes tour led by the very proper Mr Wilkins.
Other delightful spots include the Botanic Gardens with its light-as-air Palm House, and Adelaide University with its cloisters and arches. And in what could almost be a sidetrip to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts, the video calls in at the Mortlock Library, voted one of the most beautiful in the world.
The modern side of the city is highlighted, too, with visits to the artists at the Jam Factory plus the cosmopolitan Central Markets.
The Grants certainly cover some ground, including bell-ringers in action at Adelaide Town Hall, Rundle Mall (Haigh’s chocolates!), arcades, Adelaide Oval and the city’s Christmas Parade.
Of course, Adelaide is famed for its arts and culture, and the tour makes sure to drop in at such venues as the Dunstan Plaza and Theatre Royal, where Mo left ‘em laughing.
Narrated by Harry Owens, the DVD costs $20 and is available at Dymocks Books in Rundle Mall. Or phone 0428 472 074 or email to cinenews@bigpond.com
