PETstock at Heatherbrae will provide a $10 microchipping service next weekend to help ensure Port pets can be easily identified if they become lost.

The store will take part in PETstock’s third Microchip Blitz on October 20 and 21, an initiative aimed at getting residents to microchip their pets by offering the service at a fraction of the usual cost.
“Microchipping is mandatory in most states however thousands of pets have fallen through the cracks, whether that be due to the cost of microchipping or older pets that were already of age when mandatory laws were introduced,” PETstock Assist charity and events coordinator Jess Guilfoyle said.
“Providing affordable and accessible microchipping to all pet owners allows more lost animals to be returned to their owners quickly and safely... creating piece of mind for pet parents and reducing strain on rescue groups, particularly those that are volunteer run.”
In 2016, more than 8210 animals were microchipped during the national event and in 2017 those numbers reduced to 6566 which Miss Guilfoyle said demonstrated “the decreasing number of Aussie animals in need of microchipping”.
In NSW all cats and dogs must be microchipped by 12 weeks of age.
Microchipping at the Heatherbrae event will cost $10 per pet – just a fraction of the standard price, which can cost up to $80.
