While ‘a comedian walked into a church’ may sound like the start to a joke, Uncle Nath is perhaps one of the best candidates to deliver a stand-up act in the house of God.
Uncle Nath prides himself on delivering sharp adult stand-up without the profanities, which means the show can be enjoyed by the whole family.
“Yep, the swear jar is still empty,” he said. “When I first started doing stand-up I was advised to keep it clean and clever.
“So, I have been able to perform in all kinds of places, including churches. I love giving back to the local church. When I was a high school drop out with no future the church really welcomed me and saved my life.”
Uncle Nath will perform his Melbourne International Comedy Festival show for free at the Nelson Bay church on November 25 from 9.30am.
Not just funny, Can I Get A Witness? is comedy that contains deeper meanings and messages.
The show is part of a church open day that will allow the community to get to know the new pastor, Andrew East, who arrived in the Bay in February.
“I am really enjoying the area and loving being part of the community of Nelson Bay,” he said. “I heard some really positive reports about [Uncle Nath’s] clean comedy.
“Nath lives just down the road at Beresfield so I called up, offered to shout him lunch and before we knew it the stand-up with a message idea was up and running.”
Uncle Nath said he is looking forward to visiting the Bay.
“Anyone can come along and experience a church service with stand-up with a positive uplifting message instead of a traditional ‘sermon’,” he said.
“This is a great chance for families who have not been to church in a while or ever to come along. It’s great that families can all have a laugh together.”
Nelson Bay Baptist Church can be found at 19 Government Road. Uncle Nath’s stand-up show is free.
