The Bay girls won an incredible 16 of the 18 games they played at the three-day carnival hosted by the Camden & District Netball Association at Narellan.
On their way to the final, Nelson Bay defeated Southern Highlands, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Kiama, Mudgee District, Dubbo, Sapphire Coast, Casino, Lower Clarence, Tumut, Great Lakes, Queanbeyan, Tamworth, Woolgoolga District and Leeton.
The girls only recorded two losses, the first against Inverell in the round matches and the second to eventual trophy winners, Shoalhaven.
It was a heavy schedule, contesting an exhausting six games a day over three days, yet the Bay girls managed to score a total of 379 goals while conceding only 220. This outstanding record ensured the girls finished with the best defensive record across the division.
The team was coached by Amanda Wilks and her daughter Taylar Wilks was the manager. The players included Halle Beninca, Mikaela Burrows, Sienna Burrows, Tahlia Howard, Leaunna James, Ella Jones, Jorja Keenan, Lauryn Massey, Tori Stewart and Caiya Workman.
A free netball clinic for coaches aged 14-18 will be conducted this Sunday, June 23, from 9.30am with representative players Sam Poolman and Amber Cross.
