At least 11 people were killed and another 122 were injured after a magnitude 6 earthquake struck the central Chinese province of Sichuan, the state news agency Xinhua reported on Tuesday.

The earthquake occurred Monday night at 10.55 pm in the municipality of Yibin while its epicentre was located at a depth of 16 kilometres.
On Tuesday morning, at 7.34 am, another seismic movement was recorded in the same area, this time with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre.
The Ministry of Emergency Management has deployed emergency teams to the affected areas to coordinate the rescue efforts and provide aid to residents of Changning county,
At least 5,000 tents, 10,000 roll-away beds and 20,000 duvets have been sent to the location.
The earthquake also cut up a highway in the area and sections of other roads.
The Sichuan region is an earthquake-prone area, where thousands of people have died in quakes that have occurred in the past decade.
The province suffered one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent memory in 2008 , which left nearly 90,000 casualties.
