Braiden Young was arrested and charged with two counts of intimidation and being armed with intent following the March 5 incident, which occurred at a Lemon Tree Passage home.
Port Stephens police were called to the home in Cambridge Street about 11pm after a complaint of loud music was made.
Police said the responding officers spoke with a woman at the home before leaving, only to return around 30 minutes later following another noise complaint.
The occupants turned the music down, police said, and officers left the scene before receiving a third complaint call for the same property a short time later.
The occupants were then issued with a formal direction to keep the noise down, but as they left the scene police allege they heard Young threaten the occupant of the house.
Young walked into the front yard of the home and approached the officers, allegedly armed with a knife.
Police allege Young was told by the officers to drop the knife.
He allegedly failed to comply and a taser was deployed.
Young was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged.
He was refused bail and appeared in front of Newcastle Local Court for mention on Saturday, March 6.
He was due to appear before a Newcastle magistrate for mention again on Monday, March 8.
