When it came to the 2022 election campaign, the Federal Member for Paterson Meryl Swanson made a promise to the Williamtown and surrounding communities.

That promise was a review to explore alternative uses for land impacted by Department of Defence land contaminated with Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
Earlier this month Ms Swanson welcomed the receipt of the PFAS Independent Review by the government.
"I would again like to thank the local communities and individuals who contributed," she said.
Assistant Minister for Defence Matt Thistlethwaite also thanked the community and individuals who contributed to the review.
"Your views and experiences will assist the government as we move forward," he said.
Ms Swanson added that the federal government is committed to helping communities affected by PFAS contamination.
"This is a significant step forward and I will continue to advocate for our community and I am hopeful for a meaningful outcome for all affected residents," she said.
The completion of the review and its referral to cabinet is the next stage toward getting an outcome for the community.
The review, which Labor committed to during the federal election campaign, will focus on communities around RAAF Base Williamtown, the Army Aviation Centre Oakey (QLD), and RAAF Base Tindal (NT).
Ms Swanson remains committed to ensuring the best possible outcome for all impacted by the PFAS contamination in the Williamtown area.
