Committee member Bill Armstrong accepted the single event national award at the Sister Cities Australia Annual Conference in Tasmania last month.
"Anyone who had anything to do with PACRIM in March this year will know what a marvellous event it was, not only for competitive racing, but in fostering international friendships and understanding," he said.
Formed in 1988, Port Stephens Sister Cities aims to promote communication and friendships between nations.
About 120 sailors and supporters from the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Russia and Port Stephens competed in PACRIM in March with 34 local families hosting the crews.
Mr Armstrong received three trophies at the conference.
One will be displayed in Port Stephens Council, another will go to founding sister city Bellingham in the US and the other to major sister city Tateyama in Japan.
Places are still available for the three-week Cherry Blossom tour to Japan in April.
