For five years community groups have reported the severe erosion of the bank to Port Stephens Council, citing their concern for the safety of people visiting the popular park.
"It has been an issue, the erosion of the bank and erosion of sand, since the Pasha Bulker weekend," Corlette Halls, Parks and Reserves secretary Margaret Wilkinson said.
"We had a couple of erosion events, but the big one happened in June."
A large section of the bank collapsed into the water, leaving it unsafe for people to go near.
"We had trouble finding out when anything would be done. Since then it has been rebuilt by council officers using sand trucked in from Little Beach and a wave-calming device has been installed off the beach," Mrs Wilkinson said.
"The area most severely affected has now been planted with native tubestock and the park has been re-turfed where the damage from the sand occurred."
It is a temporary solution as imported sand washes away quickly, but Mrs Wilkinson is looking forward to a grant being secured to study sand and water flow.
"If council is going to spend a large amount of money [on fixing the park], they need scientific evidence," she said.
