During the 12 years Ms Lawler has presided over the group at least 100 women in need of support have been cared for by volunteers offering whatever assistance can be provided.
She said it was important to know when it was time to pass things on.
"I've been waiting a long time for someone I could pass it on to, I just want it to be a caring group and I know Taurie will do that," she said.
Volunteers drive patients to chemotherapy and radiation in Newcastle, provide house cleaning, lawn mowing, garden maintenance and various other forms of assistance in what Ms Lalor describes as "grassroots support."
The group is funded entirely by community donations, something both ladies were quick to note.
"This community is absolutely amazing, we only have to have two fundraisers a year to support our work [because] the community have taken us aboard," Ms Lawler said.
The groups next fundraising event is the Nelson Bay Golf Club Art and Photography exhibition on Sunday, April 15.
Entry for the event is a gold coin donation with champagne and nibbles provided, a 20 per cent commission for all art work sold goes to the group.
