Both Winning Holidays and Port Stephens Accommodation were at peak occupancy over the long weekend, meaning more than 500 properties on the Tomaree Peninsula were booked out.
Both put the popularity down to the timing of Easter during the school holidays and the short weeks created by both the Easter and Anzac Day public holidays.
"Working families are getting a four-day long weekend," Winning Holidays bookings and marketing manager Samantha Peters said.
"It's very busy, we're on par with Christmas."
Principal and licensee of Port Stephens Accommodation, Dawn Liddell, said most of their bookings came in at 2pm on Thursday and the town was set to get busier from there.
"This time of year it's not so much swimming weather. People are out and about . . . Buying groceries or eating out, buying petrol, shopping."
Both Ms Peters and Ms Liddell said there had been a growing demand for larger family accommodation.
Ms Peters said those homes attracted multiple families of multiple generations or the one family who wanted to be under the one roof.
