In August, the sub-branch displayed memorabilia, Port Stephens Legacy held a barbecue and sold merchandise and the National Servicemen's Association of Australia had a stall at the centre as part of its annual fund-raiser.
There was face painting for children, a raffle and customers could place their handprint on a tile for the centre's Helping Hands campaign.
"We ran the campaign over a two-week period, with over 750 handprints being immortalised for a $5 donation," centre manager Dushani Gamage said.
"All money raised from the campaign and the fund-raiser day has gone directly to local war veterans and their families."
The money raised from the campaign and events was split between the two organisations.
Tom Lupton, vice-president of the Nelson Bay RSL sub-branch, and Brian Armstrong, chairman of Port Stephens Legacy, said they were happy with the outcome.
"The funds raised will go towards obtaining a much needed PA system for our annual Anzac Day service," Mr Lupton said.
Mr Armstrong said the money would be used to buy bedside lanterns for Port war widows.
