Allan Newburn, 35, of Ferodale Road, is accused of stabbing a friend, a 37-year-old Medowie man, about 6.30pm on October 9.
Police said the incident came about following a phone fight between the pair.
It is believed the 37 year old drove to Newburn's house on Thursday night to talk. Upon arriving, Newburn allegedly walked out of his house armed with a hunting knife and got into the passenger seat of the car.
Police said Newburn then allegedly stabbed the 37 year old in the upper left shoulder leaving a five centimetre deep wound.
Newburn got out of the car and the 37 year old drove back to his home and phoned police and the Ambulance Service of NSW.
About 7.10pm, as the man was taken to John Hunter Hospital, police attended Newburn's house and searched surrounding bushland. Police recovered a knife sheaf, but no knife.
Newburn was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding.
He appeared in Maitland Local Court on October 10 and was refused bail.
He was again refused bail in Raymond Terrace Local Court on October 13. The case was adjourned until November 26.
