THE commitment of Indigenous men and women who served, and continue to serve, in the Australian Defence Force was commemorated with the unveiling of a Worimi Hornet at last week's Avalon airshow.

Port Stephens elders Neville Lilley and John Ridgeway flew to Melbourne for the unveiling, which also celebrated the centenaries of Anzac and military aviation in Australia.
Mr Lilley said the Worimi people had worked closely with RAAF Base Williamtown personnel on programs which support Aboriginal youth.
"To see the relationship grow to a stage where an FA-18 Hornet is now painted in Aboriginal design and formally named the Worimi Hornet is a strong indication about [the] air force's respect for Aboriginal history and culture," Mr Lilley said.
"The Worimi people see this [as] a tremendous honour and privilege ... it is not only a thrill to the Worimi people but to all Aboriginal people.
"There are many traditional lands in this country, so we say thank-you for acknowledging just one little piece of land known as Worimi."
