Laura Taylor and Chris Evans will exchange vows under the Raymond Terrace wedding tree - the site where people were married prior to 1840 - as part of the festival on Saturday, April 18, at 1pm.

"I remember hearing about the wedding tree in fourth grade at Raymond Terrace Public school and thinking that's where I want to get married," said Ms Taylor, who was born and raised in the Terrace.

"Chris and I were engaged 15 years ago but back then the whole area was trashed and not fit for a wedding."

The couple expect to have 150 family and friends at the wedding, including their three children - Vincent, 15 (groomsman), Liam, 6 (pageboy) and Monica, 4 (flowergirl).

"My bridal dress has been modified to reflect the period and as much as possible Chris will be wearing a period suit."

Festival organiser Kaye Newton said King Street will be closed to traffic for the festival from 10am to 3pm.

"All the Raymond Terrace schools have been provided with a set of five plywood puppets, to create and perform a five minute play starting with 'Long, long, ago'," she said.

"A soapbox is being provided for older residents to relate their King Street anecdotes and the Worimi people have been invited to tell their stories about the land and area which became Raymond Terrace."

Ms Newton said visitors are being encouraged to dress up in period costume and participate in the hat or bonnet parade.
