THE Nelson Bay Marlins returned to the winners list and consolidated their position in the top four after a win against Killarney Vale on Saturday.

The Marlins premier side defeated Killarney Vale 14.10.94 to 6.9.45.
Travelling to the Central Coast on the back of four consecutive losses and a heartbreaking three point loss last week to take on an improving opponent was always going to be a difficult assignment for the Marlins.
However, led by Jeremy Eddy, Aaron Clayden, Adam Grinyer and Nathan Vaisey, the Marlins they answered their critics with a convincing 49 point win.
The only downside was the neck injury suffered by star midfielder, Jayden Rymer which resulted in the game being stopped for 30 minutes as he was transported to hospital.
Rymer suffered no major damage and he was released from hospital that evening.
The Marlins set the tone early kicking five first quarter goals to lead by 25 points at the first change.
Killarney Vale challenged early in the second quarter however Nelson Bay were able to respond with the final four goals of the term to lead by 42 points when half time was called five minutes early due to Rymer’s injury.
The third quarter was an arm wrestle as Killarney Vale tried to get back into the game however Nelson Bay’s defence led by Dylan Stuart stood firm and the margin at the final change was still 41 points.
Early final quarter goals to skipper Tim Divall and Clayden put the result to bed with the final margin being 49 points.
Eddy, Vaisey, Grinyer and ruckmen Billy Barton were the best for Nelosn Bay with Clayden, Eddy and Divall each finishing with three goals.
The win now has Nelson Bay in fourth position on the ladder, a game and percentage ahead of Warners Bay who the Marlins play on Saturday at Feighan Park.
The Bay’s second division side kept their finals hopes alive with a 8.14.62 to 3.18.36 win against Killarney Vale.
The women’s side made it a clean sweep for the Marlins with a 6.7.43 to 0.3.3 win against Maitland to keep their unbeaten record in tact.
Jemma Astley was a standout up forward kicking five goals whilst Lisa Steane, Pippa Smyth and Laney Hessels having strong games.
The women’s unbeaten record will be put to test on Saturday when they play Newcastle City at No 1 Sportsground as part of the Black Diamond AFL’s Women’s Round.
