The historic Nelson Bay beachfront property was established in 1946 and has generated happy holiday memories for countless visitors, some of whom have enjoyed breaks at the park for more than 50 years.
Wagga Wagga couple Fay and Gordon Mowbray first visited the park in 1964.
Their extended family have returned back every year since.
“I was born at Stockton but we moved away and so it was great to come back on holidays with the family,” Mrs Mowbray said.
“We bought a caravan and just kept going back each year.
“It’s a beautiful area – we’ve made wonderful friends and have so many lovely memories.”
In 2014, the couple celebrated 50 years of holidaying at Halifax Holiday Park and to mark the occasion their sons organised to have a seat installed under the couple’s favourite tree at nearby Little Beach.
Halifax is believed to be the longest-running holiday park in Port Stephens.
Geoffrey Wikner and his family established a number of cabins at the Nelson Bay site in 1946.
The park became a favourite holiday destination for visitors to Port Stephens and spearheaded tourism in the 1950s.
Seventy years on, the four-star holiday park remains as popular as ever and has become a home-away-from home for generations of travelers.
“We thank our guests for their continual loyalty to Halifax Holiday Park and the support they have shown us over the past 70 years and hope to continue improving the park for more generations to enjoy,” Halifax Holiday Park manager Sweeby Bryan said.
To mark its 70th birthday, during the long weekend Halifax Holiday Park staff will hold a number of activities including a free sausage sizzle, face painting, outdoor movies, live music and rock pool adventures for children.
