About 100 people turned out for the launch on Magnus Street.
“It enlivened the street on a balmy evening,” Port Stephens Council community development and engagement coordinator Penny Amberg said.
“With a musician on the street and a real buzz happening inside we even had a few people walk in to see what it was about.”
The shop will stock items from a diverse group of artists that includes photographic works, glass designs, textiles and ceramics to name a few.
“The opening was so lovely we would really like to see more night time events like it throughout summer,” Ms Amberg said.
The store will remain open through March.
