The Panthers backed up after a solid 22-22 draw the previous week against Shortland.
The Bulla boys got into the grind from the opening whistle and lead 12-6 at half time in wet conditions.
Hayden Thompson showed class as players’ player.
Jamie McSpadden was a constant threat from half back while fullback Koby Martyn was safe at the back in terrible conditions.
Mallabulla has a bye before it hosts Fingal Bay on June 17. Kick off is 3pm.
Fingal fires
Fingal Bay continues to move up the ladder this time with a gutsy 26-24 win over Tea Gardens on Sunday.
The Bomboras raced to a 22-0 lead at half time but the big, powerful Hawks pack rolled up the middle in the second half and was 22-22 with five minutes left.
The Bomboras back line proved the difference with a clutch play started by Mitch Wilton who turned centre Nathan Dover inside to link with a flying Denam Glasson to score.
Cameron Scully was the players’ player.
Bay beats Bulls
Nelson Bay won 39-12 over the Singleton Bulls last Saturday.
Try scorers for the Bay were Nathan Oliver, Chad Northcott, Dan Collins, and Michael Wiringi.
A bye will give several players a rest including Tod Arnold who played Maitland with two broken ribs.
