What a cracker. Two kilograms, 45-centimetres of broad-shouldered, fat, bright-eyed, snowy-white beach bream taken from the surf off Stockton Beach.
Anna Bay champion Greg Schofield tossed a fresh pipi just behind the white water when Whooshka!
This is the time of year when schools of travelling fish swim north along the beaches and into the estuaries. Best beaches are Stockton and Fingal and the best baits for are worms, pipis and fresh mullet strips. School mulloway are also on the move on the beaches with a few bigger mates over 20kg close by.
Best beaches: Stockton, Fingal.
Inside the Port the hottest spot for winter bream is the Nelson Bay breakwall, where cooked prawns have been the preferred bait.
Duffy tells me that Boat Harbour champ Laurin Williams landed a 63cm dusky flathead off the breakwall floating brined pilchards along the wall. Luderick are moving in big schools along the beaches however they are patchy inside the port and along the breakwall. It won't be long before they arrive in force and take up residence till spring. Great catch Mike Nicholson with his 5kg snapper off the rocks at Fishermans Bay.
Drummer are everywhere off the rocks - toss out and hang on.
