The club’s 31st birthday was marked on Friday, August 11 with a special luncheon meeting at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club.
At the celebratory luncheon, club members and guests marked the birthday of foundation member Min Thomas, who turned 104 in March.
Ms Thomas was one of the original 36 women who turned out to the Girl Guides Hall in 1986 to form the first Ladies Probus Club of Raymond Terrace.
Special guest to the Friday luncheon was Paterson MP Meryl Swanson.
Ms Swanson presented Ms Thomas with a birthday certificate.
Ten ladies also received service pins at the Friday luncheon.
Beth Osborn received a pin for 25 years of service with the Probus club.
Twenty year pins went to June Manning, Dot Norford, Audrey Zamla; 15 years pins to Isabel Clinton, Maureen Ingham, Ruth Nicholas, Jill Sharkey; 10 years to Kerry Webb and Doreen Bailey.
Ms Swanson said attending luncheons such as Friday’s were one of the fun aspects of her job.
“I really wanted to be here to congratulate the club,” Ms Swanson said.
“These clubs are really great for the community. There are some ladies here who are 90. Without clubs like these, they might be sitting at home with no one.
“By being part of a club like this, they get out in the community and have support.”
About 60 people turned out to the luncheon.
Guests included Brad Reid, a director of Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, Brendan Hong, president of the Raymond Terrace Men’s Probus Club, and Ray Davies, a representative of South pacific Probus.
Current ladies Probus club president Kath Dooker said it was a pleasure to be a member.
“It the camaraderie, thoughtfulness and friendliness,” she said.
“It’s really nice to join something, to get to know people and enjoy in each other’s company.”
A number of club members are also marking their birthday’s this month: Joan Bamford, Anne Kime and Robyn Sansom.
