Yasmine Turner claimed the annual Charlie Bell Scholarship, worth $5000.
The scholarship provides financial assistance towards vocational or tertiary studies for students who have experienced serious illness.
Miss Turner’s early school years were disrupted by surgeries to treat a serious and rare eye condition.
Despite this she has worked hard to achieve academic success.
Miss Turner was awarded Dux in Year 11 and Year 12 at St Phillip’s Christian College.
The young achiever was the winner of the NAB NSW Best Business Award and has already received an early acceptance into Macquarie University to study Commerce Law.
In pursuing her passion for photography, Miss Turner has also completed a Diploma in professional photography and established her own photography business.
“There is no doubt that Yasmine has the determination to achieve anything she puts her mind to,” Belinda Woolford, the executive officer at Ronald McDonald House Westmead, said.
The scholarship is named after Charlie Bell, the first Australian global McDonald’s Corporation CEO.
He was also an inspirational leader and generous supporter of Ronald McDonald House charities.
In 2005 Mr Bell died from cancer, but left behind a legacy that allows young Australians who have experienced serious health problems to follow their dream for vocational and tertiary education.
