There have been reports of excellent catches from Tilligerry Creek, Taylors Beach, Soldiers Point, Lemon Tree Passage, Tanilba, North Arm Cove, Karuah River, Wanda Beach, Corlette and Jimmies Beach.
Here are a few points to remember if you are considering crabbing over the summer months:
- Legally you are permitted two traps with entrances less than 36 centimetres wide and four drop nets or dilly pots.
- Witches hats are illegal throughout Port Stephens waters and heavy fines are in place.
- A bag limit of 10 crabs daily is in place.
- Use fresh bait of mullet or any fish frame.
- Keep your trap rope as short as possible and supply all information required by Fisheries on your surface float.

ISLAND VISIT
Throughout the week I spent a few days on Broughton Island, where the weather was fantastic and the water was freezing, resulting in few fish being caught.
I was told, while on the island, of a Port Stephens recreational fisher who boasted of catching more than 100 lobsters. Why would any recreational fisher need over 100 lobsters?
One wonders.
