Raymond Terrace Ravens ladies league team moved into the major semi-final against Dora Creek after defeating Fingal Bay 18-6 in the elimination semi last weekend.

The Ravens led 10-0 at half time. Try scorers for the Terrace were Reanna Betwell, Ellie Russell, Leeanne Cheetham and Cynthia Wooderson.

The Fingal girls tried hard in their first season of competition with Haley Dews non-stop in attack. Defence had good support from try scorer full back Mel Hodson and halves partner Marnie Parfitt.

Mallabula Rugby League Club bowed out of the finals after losing to University 36-22.

The Panthers’ poor completion rate and simple errors proved costly as the students were gifted plenty of ball.

The Bulla boys were in the contest at half time trailing 12-6.

Hard working back rowers Connor O’Neill and Hayden Thompson the best in a beaten team.

Half back Joe Gaynor tried to spark the attack but was a little undone after an eight week lay off.

Nelson Bay juniors continue to be major players on the Newcastle rugby union scene with three teams heading into grand-finals this Saturday at Gateshead.

Under-12s – the major premiers and undefeated – will line up against Singleton Bulls at 9.40am. The competition’s leading try scorer, Xavier Stewart, is sure to make an impact.

Under-15s play at 12.40pm after winning their final against Maitland 34-12.

Under-17s are at 3pm, playing Wanderers after an impressive 29-10 win over Merewether Carlton.

Under-14s had a great year but lost in the final to Southern Beaches 22-10.
