Members of the Probus Club of Nelson Bay, which is heading into its 40th year, enjoyed fun, friendship and fellowship during a busy month in March.

The oldest club on the Tomaree peninsula conducted its annual general meeting and changeover luncheon at Nelson Bay Bowling Club, attended by nearly 90 members and guests.
The new president is Ian Sloggett, who takes the reins from outgoing president Maurie Douglass, who presented a life membership to Keith Chapman for his outstanding work and dedication to the club.
Richard Champion also received a certificate for his contribution to the bulletin.
Mr Sloggett's new committee includes John Wright (vice), Dave Watson (secretary), Brian Keely (treasurer), Adrian Everett (guest speakers), Dod Norris (welfare), Ron Wittig (bulletin), Harrie Furner (membership), Bill Gainsford (social activities), Les Watson (refreshments) and Ken Shadler (caravan group & publicity).
Probus is an association for active members of the community and for those no longer working full time to join together in clubs for a new lease of life.
The club's purpose is to advance intellectual and cultural interests among adult, to provide regular opportunities to progress healthy minds and active bodies through social interaction and activities, expand members interests and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends. It offers many member benefits including international and domestic travel, daytrip excursions and luncheons.
Nelson Bay Probus Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 9.30am at Nelson Bay Bowling Club.
The Port Stephens Probus Club, meanwhile, meets at 9.30am on the second Thursday of every month at the Nelson Bay Bowling Club.
Probus Club of Port Stephens is a vibrant and active community organisation with a mixed gender membership base for retired or semi-retired couples and singles who enjoy many events and activities organised for those who want to make new friends with similar interests.
Activities include barbecues, dining, day trips, short trips away, shows, fishing, cara campers, mixed social and inter club bowls, walking group, snooker, fun golf & putt putt, social croquet, movie nights, impromptu get-togethers and an annual ladies function.
