At Banksia Grove in Williamtown, around 70 residents attended a morning tea where more than $2000 was donated to both the Cancer Council and the Williamtown Salt Ash Rural Fire Brigade - the result of two garage sales held in the village hall.
Residents committee president Dot Harland made the presentation to the fire brigade after residents had donated various items of jewellery, furniture, clothes and bric-a-brac for the garage sales.
Richard Black, on behalf of Hampshire Property Group, owners of Banksia Grove, matched the $1000 to raise the total amount to more than $2000 to be shared between the fire brigade and the Cancer Council.
"The fire brigade is always first to respond whenever Banksia Grove is under threat from fire," Ms Harland said.
"It is always a great pleasure to help the brigade.
"They do so much for our residents, from checking smoke alarms to fighting bush fires. We hope this money raised can help towards buying of new equipment to make their job easier in the future."
At Anna Bay's Latitude One, 120 people raised $3500 to support the NSW Cancer Council and the vital research, prevention and support services they provide.
Businesses, residents, suppliers, staff and families came together to create a very successful day.
Ingenia events coordinator Felicity Hamilton said the fundraiser was hosted by residents and was particularly close to their hearts.
"Like many Australians, a lot of our residents have also had family members or friends affected by cancer," Ms Hamiliton said.
"We are so excited to celebrate and host an event to help the community give back to a cause that means so much to all of us."
